Philosophical questions for Christians and Atheists?
Lauren: The fact that you do not know what occurred before the big bang does not require you to default to accepting the ridiculous deities of human supersitition. The most obvious question if your default answer to cosmic orgins is "god" because you believe all things have beginning and a cause would be, "What caused your god? Why did your god come into being?" And if you give the standard answer, "God has always been and is uncaused" then I have to ask, "Why is god an exception to your rule. And if your god can exist without a beginning or a cause, then why can't the cosmos exist without a beginning or a cause." You default to magic when faced with your own ignorance because you have been culturally conditioned to do so. When I am faced with the unknown, I keep seeking answers that can be tested and verified. So-called divine revelations, like the latest prediction of the end of the world in May, always prove false or impossible to confirm. Experience shows us that those who make unconfirmable claims are often simply mistaken or con artists.
