Why do alot of Americans STILL hate Muslims?

I mean it's 2011 and people STILL insist on stereotyping and generalizing? I'm sure alot of Americans wouldn't like if I told them I thought Americans belonged to Westboro Baptist Church. Exactly. That's what us normal Muslims feel when you proceed to call us violent and barbaric when you don't even know us. I used the term "normal" not "moderate" cause people like Osama Bin Laden don't even follow the teachings of Islam which commands us to treat non-Muslims nicely and try to get them to like Islam by showing them the true ethics of Muslims and definitely not by killing them!
